WINEMAKER NOTES
Since the late 1930s, three generations of the Madrigal family have been farming in the Napa Valley. Jacinto Madrigal came to Calistoga from Mexico, farming apples, pears, walnuts and grapes.

With a perfect balance of warm days, cool nights and a long growing season, the 2013 harvest in Napa Valley will be remembered for ideal weather conditions and premium grapes used to make opulent red wines that were powerful, complex and ageworthy.

One of the people with an inside track on the high-quality grapes picked in 2013 was Chris Madrigal, whose family farms more than 800 acres of vineyards throughout the valley. While most of the fruit from this memorable vintage was sold to top Napa Valley producers, the best blocks of Cabernet Sauvignon and smaller portions of Merlot, Petite Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc grown at the family's estate vineyard in Calistoga was used to craft this special library release from Madrigal Family Winery, a boutique brand started in 1995.

Blend: 76% Cabernet, 12% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, 4% Malbec, & 4% Cab Franc

Alcohol: 14.8%
92 POINTS - "With a dazzling dark red hue, the wine opens up with seductive aromas of dark berries, blue fruits, chocolate, licorice, earth tones and cigar box. On the palate, robust flavors of ripe blackberry, black raspberry, cassis are mixed with nuances of wild sage, chocolate truffle, vibrant acidity, silky tannins, and a hint of smoke leading to the lingering finish. True satisfaction in ever sip." - Chris Sawyer

90 POINTS - "A juicy Napa Cabernet from a great vintage. This wine is showing great fruit and balance. Notes of blackberry pie, tobacco leaf, and herbs like sage and a touch of eucalyptus. On the palate you will get those fruit notes right up front of BlackBerry, black cherry, a little black pepper and baking spice. The acids are bright and tannins nice and dry. This could be a great wine with a cheese plate or a winter salad with leafy greens, goat cheese and blackberries." - Steve Kleinfeld

Socially Rated 4+ / 5 ⭐
This is a likable round and approachable wine. Aromas of sage, blackberry and mocha open to succulent, juicy, flavors of currents and chocolate, finishing with power and concentration.
