WINEMAKER NOTES
Embark on a journey through time and terroir with the Burgess 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon. Cultivated since 1872 on the slopes of Howell Mountain, the Sorenson Vineyard stands as a testament to our enduring legacy. Perched high above the Napa Valley, its vines bask in the morning fog, drawing vitality from the volcanic soils and ancient redwoods that surround them.

Across the ridge lies the Haymaker Vineyard, acquired by Burgess Cellar in 1987. Here, Petit Verdot and Malbec thrive in the eastern sunlight, their flavors echoing the marine sediments of this unique terroir. Together, these vineyards yield grapes of unparalleled quality, each contributing its own essence to our distinguished blend.

Crafted with precision and passion, our 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon exudes elegance and complexity. Ripe black currants and luscious blackberries tantalize the palate, complemented by subtle herbal notes of sage, mint, and sweet tobacco. With a long, velvety finish, this wine embodies the essence of Howell Mountain.

Comprising 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, and 4% Malbec, our blend strikes the perfect harmony of varietals. Aged for 22 months in a combination of new and neutral French oak barriques, it achieves a delicate balance of flavors and textures. At 14.7% alcohol, it invites you to indulge in its richness and depth, whether enjoyed now or cellared for years to come.

Step into the heart of Napa Valley with Burgess 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon. Experience the heritage and tradition of our vineyards in every sip, as you savor the essence of Howell Mountain. Elevate your wine experience with a bottle that transcends time and terroir, inviting you to discover the true essence of California winemaking.

95 POINTS - "This classically styled Napa Cabernet is big but balanced, offering savory black olive and bay leaf aromas that lead to potent, tasty black currant, mint and blueberry flavors. Silky, bracing tannins support the complex flavors, lending elegance and age-worthiness. Best from 2025-2035." Wine Enthusiast

91 POINTS - "Made using just 15% new French oak and blending fruit from the Sorenson and Haymaker vineyards, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Contadina is gently cedary and herbal, backed by ample cassis. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a smooth, silky feel and a lingering finish, this is a solid effort for drinking over the next decade, and it's a reasonable value as well." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A balanced yet lively Cabernet Sauvignon with notes of ripe black currents and lush blackberries, accentuated with herbal aromatics of sage, mint, and sweet tobacco. Sourced from Sorenson and Haymaker vineyards on the west and east-facing sides of Howell Mountain, this wine has a long velvety finish.
