WINEMAKER NOTES
The legacy of Capanna runs deep, rooted in the rich soil of Montalcino's Montosoli area since 1957. A testament to the Cencioni family's dedication, it stands as one of the pioneering estates in the modern era of Brunello. Guided by Giuseppe Cencioni and his sons, Benito and Franco, Capanna embarked on a journey of vinicultural excellence, bottling their own wines in the 1960s and contributing to the founding of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino.

The 2017 vintage unfolds as a tale of nature's balance and meticulous craftsmanship. Despite a dry start in winter, timely rainfalls in September brought relief. Moderate temperatures and strategic rainfall orchestrated a symphony of flavors, ensuring a gradual and harmonious ripening of grapes. With an average vine age of 13 years, the fruit bears the mark of maturity and finesse.

Crafted with precision, the winemaking process unveils the essence of Capanna's terroir. Alcoholic fermentation, coupled with skin maceration, spans 30 days under controlled temperatures, fostering a delicate extraction of flavors. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation takes place in Slavonian oak vats, shaped like truncated cones, aged for approximately 15 years. Subsequently, the wine matures in bottles for a minimum of 6 months, refining its character and complexity.

The 2017 Capanna Brunello di Montalcino invites with a captivating bouquet, where red currant dances with nuances of undergrowth and nutmeg. A whisper of juniper adds intrigue, promising an aromatic journey. On the palate, it reveals an impressive density, embraced by tannins that weave a tapestry of salinity. The finale is a symphony of fruit and balsamic notes, leaving a lasting impression of elegance and balance.

In the world of fine wines, Capanna 2017 Brunello di Montalcino stands tall, a testament to tradition and innovation. With each sip, it invites you to partake in a legacy centuries in the making, a journey through the hills of Tuscany, where passion meets precision. Indulge in the allure of Capanna, where every bottle tells a story of heritage and excellence.

Alcohol: 15%
93 POINTS - "Lots of ripe berries and sandalwood with nutmeg. It’s full-bodied with chewy tannins and a big, juicy finish. Needs time to soften. Chunky. Try after 2025." - James Suckling

93 POINTS - "The Capanna 2017 Brunello di Montalcino shows fresh primary fruit initially, but the bouquet is otherwise footed in ethereal tones of balsam herb, cola, crushed flowers and autumnal leaf. The wine delivers purity and a nice level of complexity that flirts with both varietal and territory-specific characteristics. It registers 15% alcohol, but thankfully it's not too intrusive. That power and the wine's structure, with some mild tannic bitterness, plays against the delicate quality of fruit you get here. Best after 2024." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Nose of red currant, with touches of undergrowth and nutmeg, with a nice hint of juniper at the end. It has an excellent density, salty tannins and a fruity balsamic finish
