WINEMAKER NOTES
The wines produced by Chateau Montelena are handcrafted in our cellar by their dedicated winemaking team. The wines express the fruit from which they are made and the vintage in which they are grown, with all other elements in balance to complement the fruit.

When we talk about vintages here at Montelena, they are often categorized as “hot” or “cold,” and very occasionally there are the years like 2007 that because of their ideal conditions earn the tag of “Goldilocks.” Warm spring conditions lead to earlier than normal bud break, while the moderate temperatures in summer and early fall further extended the growing season, resulting in long slow ripening with fantastic flavor development and near perfect juice chemistries.

94 POINTS - "A great wine in the making, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (just under 10,000 cases produced) possesses a fragrant bouquet of sweet black currants, crushed rocks, earth and background oak. Full-bodied and dense, with Montelena's typical power, tannin and reserved nature, this is a big, rich, formidably endowed red that requires 4-5 years of cellaring. That in itself is atypical of this exuberant, flamboyant vintage. Given this cuvee’s past history, this 2007 should age for 30+ years." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

92 POINTS - "This will be released next year. I am loving the intense currants, mint, eucalyptus, and blackberries in the nose. Reminds me of a Lynch Bages or Mouton. Full bodied and chewy, with lovely fruit and round velvety tannins. The finish is packed with some serious fruit, but this could still use some time. Give this until at least 2015." - James Suckling

The huge powerful nose captivates with layer on layer of spice, cedar, earth, and tobacco all over a rich base of ripe black cherry, black currants, cassis, and blueberry jam.

Rich round juicy and mouth coating the palate delivers black cherry and black currant before moving on to brighter red fruits. More subtle tones of butterscotch, anise, and sweet oak complement the fruit beautifully.

The huge classic structure of fine grain tannin and firm acidity persist all the way through to the clean crisp spicy finish.
