93 POINTS - " This wine opens with brambly black fruit aromas mixed with hints of smoked meats, wild herbs, leather and savory spices. Full-bodied with a plush texture, the concentrated flavors of blackberry, black raspberry, huckleberry, dark cherry, black pepper, licorice and roasted walnuts are balanced with silky tannins, firm structure, and lingering dry finish. These elements create a compelling expression of this classic mountain vineyard in liquid form. The end result is a complex wine loaded with power, elegance and dark berry goodness in every sip." Chris Sawyer - Certified Sommelier
Peter Haywood planted Los Chamizal Vineyard in 1976, this vineyard is situated in the mountains of Southern Sonoma Valley, in the Moon Mountain District AVA one mile north of Sonoma. The beautiful terraced vines are carved into steeply sloping hillsides reaching 800 ft. in elevation. The soils range from well drained sandy clay loams at the lower elevations to thin fractured basalt soils at the highest elevations where our wine come from. With modestly warm climate through the day, with the vines enjoying cooler evening air, which preserves higher acidity levels in the grapes. Los Chamizal is a sustainable vineyard, using permanent cover crops, compost and organic fertilizers to nurture the soil.
