WINEMAKER NOTES
The 2021 vintage of Dumol's "Wester Reach" Pinot Noir is a sensory journey through the heart of the Russian River Valley, a region intimately known and cultivated by the esteemed winemakers. Meticulously crafted from vineyards boasting over two decades of dedicated care, this wine is a harmonious blend of the finest sites within the appellation, offering a nuanced expression of the diverse sub-districts that shape its character.

Drawing from the coastal DuMOL Estate, the wine emanates dark fruit intensity, seasoned with savory spice, and exudes a bright vibrancy that defines the valley. Upp Road, perched at a higher elevation overlooking the Green Valley, contributes soaring red and black fruit characters of unparalleled purity. Occidental Road, with its deeper clay soils in the Santa Rosa Plains, provides a rich fruit extract and textural opulence. Meanwhile, Flax Estate, positioned on a hillside overlooking the river in the Middle Reach, weaves in volume, structure, and density from its volcanic soils.

The sensory experience unfolds with classic coastal Russian River aromas and flavors. Crisp red apple skin, bright red cherry, deep wild berry, hibiscus, pepper, fresh mint, and a complex woodsy note dance on the palate. The core of red and black fruits exhibits exceptional purity and succulence, supported by impeccably balanced black tea tannins and bright, vibrant acidity. The wine concludes with a sleek and focused finish, characterized by liveliness and a lingering aromatic lift that captivates the senses.

This exceptional blend comprises 38% Dumol Estate Vineyard, 24% Occidental Road Vineyard, 20% Dutton-Upp Road Vineyard, and 18% Flax Estate Vineyard. The carefully selected harvest from these vineyards occurred between August 25th and 31st, showcasing the optimal ripeness of the grapes. The wine, aged for 15 months in 30% new French oak barrels from Tonnelleries Ermitage & Remond, reflects the dedication to preserving the delicate balance between fruit expression and oak influence.

With clones including Calera, Swan, Pommard, and Dijon, and vines boasting 16 years at harvest, this Pinot Noir embodies the culmination of expertise, passion, and terroir. It is a testament to Dumol's commitment to producing wines of exceptional quality and character. Experience the essence of the Russian River Valley in a bottle—indulge in the Dumol 2021 Wester Reach Pinot Noir, a celebration of craftsmanship and the unique terroir that defines this renowned appellation.

95 POINTS - "A wine with a lot of back end, with dark fruits of blackberry and cherry. Ripe strawberry. Hints of toasted oak and smoke. It’s full and layered with very firm and polished tannins. Very serious and real, and shows the structure of the vintage. Some chocolate. Strawberry pie, too. Drinkable but two to three years of age will help it." - James Suckling

95 POINTS - "Vivid, brilliant, focused fruit flavors light up this lively, almost-electric wine while racy acidity and lightly gripping tannins give a mouthwatering texture that won’t quit. While totally delicious and appetizing now, the wine is certainly built to age well." - Wine Enthusiast
