WINEMAKER NOTES
An impeccably crafted expression of the Priorat’s rugged beauty and ancient soul, the 2017 Perinet Priorat is a wine that transcends the typical boundaries of regional style and speaks in bold, eloquent tones. Deep dark ruby in hue, with alluring flashes of Ferrari red and cranberry along the rim, it seduces immediately in the glass, signaling both power and elegance. This cuvée is the epitome of the Priorat appellation—structured, intense, and deeply mineral, yet guided with finesse by the estate’s signature precision winemaking.

From the sun-drenched slopes of Mas d’en Xes, where old vines claw through fractured slate in search of moisture, this bottling captures the extremes of the 2017 vintage—a year marked by heat and intensity, but ultimately giving way to freshness and purity. The blend—48% Garnatxa, 25% Carinyena, 16% Syrah, and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon—respects tradition while nudging it gently toward the contemporary. Garnatxa lends lush red fruit and lifted aromatics, Carinyena provides backbone and earthy undertones, while Syrah and Cabernet bring spice, power, and breadth.

On the nose, this Priorat is a study in complexity: aromas of sweet cocoa, truffle, chestnut, gingerbread, and dried herbs interplay with sun-dried cherries, olives, and forest floor. It’s a perfume that is equal parts earthy and decadent, evoking a walk through a cool Mediterranean forest after rainfall. Fermented entirely in stainless steel with an extended 30+ day maceration, the wine gains impressive extraction and tannic structure without sacrificing elegance.

The palate is both broad and vertical—dense, fruit-forward entry evolves into a rich mid-palate layered with cherry reduction, plum skin, cured tobacco, and black truffles. A subtle mango-like acidity keeps everything lifted, while the long finish reverberates with balsamic warmth, ripe tannins, and whispers of aged French oak. Aged 15 months in 30% new and 70% seasoned barrels, the wood is well-integrated, framing rather than dominating the wine’s natural exuberance.

At 16% ABV, this is not a wine for the timid, but for those who crave authenticity, terroir, and the intensity only the Priorat DOQ can deliver. With just over 1,000 cases produced, this is a rare gem—one that will continue to evolve beautifully over the next 10–15 years. For collectors, connoisseurs, and serious enthusiasts, the 2017 Perinet Priorat is a benchmark bottling not to be missed.

93 POINTS - "Aromas of cherry cola, lavender and mocha set the scene for flavors of three-berry pie, chocolate-covered espresso bean, butterscotch and anisette. Plush tannins make way for a coffee-bean finish." - Wine Enthusiast
Deep dark ruby with touches of Ferrari red and cranberry on the rims. Beautifull sweet cocoa with touches of truffles, chocolate, gingerbread, chestnut balance with fern, olives and cherries. Dense fruity entrance evolving on a beautiful mid-palate that balances with creamy structure touches of plumb and cherry reduction lingering on a mango juice. Balsamic wood atmosphere, ripe tannin, balanced oak barrel influence, long on the palate, cured tobacco and black truffles, raspberries, voluminous and warm tannin that evolves expressively.
