WINEMAKER NOTES
In the Mardi Gras Indian culture, the Big Chief is the leader of the tribe and our 2017 Big Chief Cabernet Sauvignon is the leader of our tribe. The grapes were hand harvested in the early morning of September 29th from a small valley floor vineyard in St Helena. The grapes were then hand sorted and fermented in a small batch to ensure optimal quality.

Deep, dense and concentrated. This dynamic Cabernet lives up to the colorful, thought-provoking image of the painting of the chief done by talented New Orleans artist Sarah Stiehl, which appears on the label of this limited release wine.

Blend: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon & 15% Cab Franc

Alcohol: 14.9%
94 POINTS - "With a fine crimson color, the wine immediately jumps out of the glass with lofty aromas of ripe berries, dark fruits and black currants intertwined with hints of Mexican baking chocolate, leather, pipe tobacco, sandstone, and savory spices. As the flavor profile expands, noble notes of dark cherry, black raspberry, red currants and ripe plums are enhanced with layers of cinnamon, clove, and spiced walnuts. As the smooth tannins cover the palate, there is plenty of lively acidity and backbone to create a memorable moment at the end of each sip. Equally impressive was how the fresh flavors and firmness of this wine held up for days after I originally tasted it. Once again proof that the magical combination of power, finesse, generosity and structure are key traits that make world-class wines that stand out from the rest." - Chris Sawyer
Aromas of black cherry, cocoa powder and graphite are noted first followed by freshly rolled cigar, cedar chest and creme de cassis, with a lush layered and structured mouthfeel that coats the palate with a long finish. This wine is fitting of the Big Chief moniker.
