WINEMAKER NOTES
From the cool, sun-dappled vineyards of Chile’s Aconcagua Valley comes the radiant 2021 Seña, a wine that once again underscores the visionary legacy of Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi. A First Growth in spirit and structure, this 50% Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend—rounded out with 27% Malbec, 17% Carmenere, and 6% Petit Verdot—delivers an intricately woven tapestry of power and finesse that speaks to both place and pedigree. Aged 22 months in 90% French oak (70% new) and 10% foudres, the wine captures the essence of a near-perfect vintage shaped by cool conditions and a steady, deliberate ripening season.

Awarded a perfect 100 points by James Suckling, the 2021 Seña is not only a benchmark for Chilean winemaking, but a global statement of grace and greatness. In the glass, it opens with a spectacular robe of deep ruby, edged with youthful violet shimmer. The nose is a seductive mosaic: crushed strawberries, cassis, and rose petals dance in harmony with exotic spices, cocoa powder, and subtle undertones of clove. There’s a tactile aromatic precision here that evokes the great terroirs of Bordeaux, yet it’s unmistakably Chilean in soul—thanks to the Carmenere, which brings an earthy warmth and herbal dimension that anchors the bouquet in the Andean foothills.

On the palate, Seña 2021 is a study in linear purity. Sleek and refined, its silky entry builds toward a spine of juicy acidity and fine-grained tannins, each note of ripe red fruit and blackcurrant sharpened by minerality and tension. Dark chocolate, fresh pastry, and hints of espresso emerge mid-palate, lending density without weight. The finish lingers with ethereal grace, echoing floral and spice notes in a crescendo of complexity that will unfurl further with time.

What sets the 2021 vintage apart is its extraordinary balance—a convergence of nature’s generosity and human precision. The cooler season fostered grapes of remarkable aromatic intensity and structure, setting the stage for a wine that not only dazzles now but promises immense longevity. This is a Seña of detail and delineation, a wine that will easily evolve for two decades or more, each passing year unlocking new dimensions of harmony and elegance.

In a world seeking authenticity and excellence, the 2021 Seña answers with both. It is a triumph of biodynamic viticulture, a modern classic born of Chile’s unique terroir, and an unmistakable testament to the vision of its founders. For collectors and connoisseurs alike, this 100-point vintage is a must-have.

Blend: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Malbec, 17% Carmenere, & 6% Petit Verdo

Alcohol: 14%
100 POINTS - "Overwhelming nose with a cornucopia of black, red and blue berries, perfectly accented by fine toasty oak. With aeration the floral notes expand. Super-concentrated and vibrant with incredible finesse on the medium- to full-bodied palate. Such great brilliance at the finish, where the power builds very steadily. Still so young, but already dangerously delicious. It will be really hard to wait. A cuvee of 50% cabernet sauvignon, 27% malbec, 17% carmenere and 6% petit verdot. From biodynamically grown grapes" - James Suckling

98 POINTS - "One of the finest vintages of the iconic Seña wine, the 2021 Seña comes from a cooler year, following the path of 2016 and 2018, certainly cooler than 2020 and 2019. It has a super expressive nose that is elegant, nuanced, perfumed, subtle and pure, with aromatic finesse, layered and complex. It was picked a couple of weeks later than in the previous two years and still keeping the alcohol below 14%. It was produced with a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Malbec (cooler years with more), 17% Carmenere and 6% Petit Verdot, fermented mostly in stainless steel and 10% in oak foudre. It's fine-grained and structured but juicy, similar to 2018 but with more finesse. It has the spicy/herbal twist from the Cabernet, ultra-refined tannins that give it great elegance and with length, purity and delineation. Superb!" - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

96 POINTS - "The 2021 Seña is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with 27% Malbec, 17% Carménère and 6% Petit Verdot from Ocoa in the Aconcagua Valley. It was aged for 22 months, 90% in French oak barrels (70% new) and 10% in foudres. Purple with a garnet sheen. The nose presents vivid redcurrant and blackcurrant notes with a layer of garrigue against a cigar box backdrop. Dry in the mouth, refreshing acidity stirs up finely grained tannins to channel the palate. A lingering, fruity red that will grow in the bottle." - Vinous
