TASTING NOTES
The 2021 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Silver Oak is a masterclass in patience, precision, and timeless California winemaking. Aged for four years before release, this vintage arrives ready to transform any moment into a celebration. From the first sip, it is elegant and assured, offering silky tannins that frame the wine with grace while bright acidity lifts a generous core of rich, expressive fruit. A broad mid palate unfolds seamlessly, leading to a long, polished finish that lingers with quiet intensity. This is a Cabernet crafted for those who understand that greatness is never rushed.
Alexander Valley has long promised distinction. With its diverse landscape of river valley floor, rolling benchlands, and sun warmed afternoons, the region delivers fruit of remarkable balance and character. Silver Oak established roots here before the AVA was officially recognized, guided by founding winemaker Justin Meyer’s belief in Alexander Valley’s potential for world class Cabernet Sauvignon. Decades later, that vision continues to define every bottle, as the winery consistently captures the purity and power that make Alexander Valley Cabernet so sought after.
The 2021 harvest brought exceptional clarity and harmony. A dry winter, cool spring, and gentle summer allowed vines to thrive naturally, producing grapes with depth, vibrancy, and structural balance. Silver Oak’s commitment to precision viticulture ensures that every block is farmed and harvested at optimal ripeness. By mapping soils, monitoring vine health, and timing picks carefully, the winemaking team preserves the unique expression of each vineyard component before blending.
After blending in early 2022, the 2021 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was transferred to American oak barrels from The Oak cooperage for 24 months of aging. Silver Oak’s signature practice of blending before barrel aging allows the inherent character of the vineyards to guide the wine’s structure before oak influence shapes its final form. The result is a Cabernet Sauvignon that emerges integrated, harmonious, and ready to enjoy upon release.
In the glass, aromas of cedar, vanilla, and clove intertwine with vibrant notes of blackberry, black cherry, and ripe raspberry. The texture is supple yet structured, with silky tannins and bright acidity carrying the wine toward a refined, enduring finish. The 2021 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon stands as a benchmark of consistency, craftsmanship, and the enduring excellence of Alexander Valley Cabernet.

96 POINTS - "The 2021 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon from Alexander Valley was harvested between 4 September and 8 October. The blend comprises 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot and 1% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. After blending, it was barrel-aged for 24 months in American oak, 50% of which was new, followed by 14 months of bottle ageing prior to release. The wine is beautifully layered and highly fragrant, with remarkable precision and focus in this vintage. Medium- to full-bodied, it integrates the hallmark Silver Oak American spice character through cedarwood aromatics, elegant whispers of vanilla bean, and nuances of fresh fennel (from more refined American oak barrels crafted after precision trials of both seasoning and toasting from the American oak cooperage they own in Higbee, Missouri). Supple dark-cherry and blackberry fruit are framed by graphite minerality, violets and clove, building in richness and complexity across the palate. Suave and silken, the dark-berry fruit is wrapped in a tapestry of velvety tannins, gliding to a focused finish of brown baking spices and crisp, clean acidity." - Decanter
93 POINTS - "So full-bodied, ripe and robust, offering spicy, iron-like, black fruit aromas, with generous dark cherries on a firmly tannic palate. Concentrated black plum, graphite, black pepper, coffee bean, pine resin and oak toast flavors on a full body. The tannins are powerful and fine-grained, shaping the texture significantly at this stage. Drinkable now, but best from 2030." - James Suckling

Uncork the character of cedar, vanilla and clove layered over a lush foundation of blackberry, black cherry and ripe raspberry. The first sip is elegant and assured. Silky tannins provide structure, while bright acidity lifts the rich fruit profile. A broad mid-palate gives way to a long, polished finish that lingers with quiet intensity. A vintage crafted for those who appreciate the art of patience and precision.
